A native of Poughkeepsie, Dr. Plotkin earned his medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 1992. He completed post-graduate training in internal medicine at Brown University Rhode Island Hospital in Providence and dermatology training at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.

Licensed to practice medicine in a number of states, the doctor is board-certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology, which is a voluntary, non-profit, private, autonomous organization formed for the primary purpose of protecting the public interest by establishing and maintaining high standards of training, education, and qualifications of physicians rendering care in dermatology.

Belonging to several honor societies, Dr. Plotkin is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Dermatology (Fellow), the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (Fellow), the Florida Dermatology Society, the Florida Medical Association, and the Palm Beach County Society for Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery (past President). His research is published in numerous peer-reviewed medical journals, and he is a featured expert speaker on radio and television.
