Born in Barstow, California, Dr. Thiede spent most of his life in Hacienda Heights, California. He did his undergraduate work at the University of Southern California, earning his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1984. He then received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the New York University College of Dentistry in 1988 before completing his postgraduate training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull.

Dr. Thiede is an esteemed member of various professional organizations, including the California Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Western Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the Southern California Orofacial Academy.
