Get to know Geriatrician Dr. Dimitris Platis, who serves patients in Queens, New York.

Dr. Platis is a fellowship-trained geriatrician working within the Department of Geriatrics at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens.

In regards to his educational background, Dr. Platis graduated with his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine in 2007. He then went on to perform his residency in family medicine at St. Francis Hospital in 2011, his fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine at Jamaica Hospital in 2012, and his fellowship in geriatric medicine at the New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens in 2014. 

Following his training, he attained board certification in family medicine, geriatric medicine & hospice and palliative medicine through the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). The ABFM is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties.

In his professional experience, Dr. Platis is affiliated with North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Hospice Care Network.

Geriatrics, or geriatric medicine, is a specialty that focuses on the health care of elderly people. It aims to promote health by preventing and treating diseases and disabilities in older adults. A geriatrician is a health care provider who focuses on patient well-being and independent functioning. These allopathic or osteopathic health care providers are specifically trained to evaluate and manage the unique health care needs and special treatment requirements of older people.

On a more personal note, Dr. Platis speaks both English and Greek.
