Get to know Physiatrist Dr. Luis A. Castro Velez, who serves patients in Cayey, Puerto Rico.

An experienced physiatrist, Dr. Velez helps patients to recuperate from injury or disease to enjoy a higher quality of life.

Currently, he works alongside Drs. Claudino Arias Benabe and José E. Arias Berrios at Centro Fisiátrico del Plata in Cayey, Puerto Rico. Some of the services that they offer include physical medicine, rehabilitation, electromagnetic Study, physical therapy, sports medicine, sono-guided infiltrations, acupuncture, athletic therapy, occupational therapy, as well as balance, proprioception and strengthening.

A 2008 graduate of the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, Dr. Velez went on to perform his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the said establishment from 2008 until 2012. 

Board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation, the doctor is a Diplomate of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR). The mission of the ABPMR is to serve the public by improving the quality of patient care in physical medicine and rehabilitation. This is accomplished through a process of certification and maintenance of certification that fosters excellence and encourages continuous learning.

Holding fellowship status, Dr. Velez is a Fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Physical medicine and rehabilitation, also known as physiatry and physiatrics, is a branch of medicine that aims to enhance and restore functional ability and quality of life to those with physical impairments or disabilities. Physiatrists treat a wide variety of medical conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons.
