Hi, I'm Michael Acquista DDS. I got my dental degree from Columbia School of Dental & Oral Surgery and have been in private practice in Bay Ridge for over 30 years. My office is small and you will receive individual attention. I offer the best ways to prevent tooth decay and gum disease, the best Cosmetic Dentistry and esthetics, filling materials, crowns, bridges, implant restorations and dentures. I promise I will exceed your expectations and do everything possible to explain your conditions and treatment options as well as being gentle and thorough. We perform all dental procedures except Orthodontics, complex extractions and surgery, but I will refer you to the finest specialists if need be.

How long does the dental implant process take?
First the tooth is extracted and bone grafted, if indicated. 2months later, the implant is placed. 2 months after that, it can be restored. If no tooth is present, the bone graft is often placed and that takes 2 months. Next , you see the restorative dentist who takes an impression and it takes 2 weeks for the crown. So about 5 months. What are the best practices for taking care of my teeth if I have a history of gum recession?
Brush up to the gum line, not on the gums and use a soft brush. READ MORE

Get a zirconia crown. I use Bruxzir brand crowns. READ MORE
What are your views on dental sealants for adults?
They are just as effective for adults and I am in favor of using them READ MORE
Can laser therapy be used to treat gum disease?
Certainly. I use it on some of my patients. It sterilizes as it removes sick gum tissue, sealing blood vessels and nerve endings, but hard buildup of tartar(calculus) must still be scraped off with conventional cavitron ultrasonics and hand scaling. See an Orthodontist. They will give you options for moving teeth to an optimal position. If those are not suitable, ask your general dentist if there are other options. READ MORE
How long should I wait for partial dentures?
Wait five weeks after extractions before impressions for dentures. Takes a month to 6 weeks to finish new dentures. READ MORE

What level of gum recession needs treatment?
There is no requirement. Are they sensitive? Are you brushing too hard or wrong? Is there decay? READ MORE
Is water flosser good for implants?
Yes, but you should brush and floss or pick as well. READ MORE
Can I clean under a bridge?

How long will my partials last?
10 years is considered successful. They usually need to be relined after 3-5 yrs. because the underlying gum tissue slowly recedes, compromising the fit. READ MORE
