Dr. Colvard is recognized as one of the nation’s preeminent eye surgeons. He has developed many surgical techniques and designed a variety of instruments used in eye surgery all over the world. The focus of his innovative work has always been patient safety. For example, the “Colvard Pupillometer,” an instrument used in the preoperative evaluation of patients for laser vision correction and cataract surgery, was designed and developed by Dr. Colvard.  This device, used by virtually every outstanding LASIK surgeon in the world today, has helped to improve the process of patient selection in laser vision correction.

Dr. Colvard is the Director of the Colvard-Kandavel Eye Center in Encino, California. Dr. Colvard is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). Founded in 1916, the ABO was the first American Board established to certify medical specialists and is one of 24 specialty Boards recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) and the American Medical Association (AMA).

Dr. Colvard’s acclaimed career in medicine began in 1973, when he graduated from the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. Thereafter, he went on to complete his internship with the Tufts New England Medical Center. Driven to further his knowledge and expertise, Dr. Colvard undertook his residency and fellowship training with the Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Colvard has earned the coveted titles of Diplomate of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and Fellow of the International College of Surgeons.
