  • Which is the best day to conceive a baby boy after your period?

Unfortunately, there is no scientific evidence that certain days of the menstrual cycle are most conducive to conceive a child of a certain gender. The gender of the baby is formed based on genetic make up of the sperm( X or Y chromosome) not the female ovum. I would however encourage you to take your prenatal vitamins, maintain a healthy lifestyle and diet to promote a healthy pregnancy, in general. Good luck with your pregnancy attempts ! READ MORE

  • Are painful periods normal?

Periods can be painful from several reasons and depending on the degree of pain can be debilitating !.Certain physiologic conditions such as your individual response to a hormone class called prostaglandins, could cause pain. Taking medications under the guidance of a physician can mitigate some of this. Then there are medical conditions such as endometriosis or adenomyosis from the abnormal growth of endometrial tissue ( uterine lining) that can cause pain as well. Fortunately there are treatments available for both these conditions that can help the majority of women suffering from this. Please see your doctor to explore this.... READ MORE

  • How much spotting is normal during pregnancy?

Spotting during pregnancy can be common in over 25% of women, but not normal per se. Not all spotting is necessarily dangerous especially in the first few weeks of pregnancy, but some can be a sign of threatened miscarriage or a pregnancy implanted outside the normal portion of the uterus( an ectopic pregnancy) in the first trimester or other complications later in pregnancy . Always seek the care of a physician, when you have spotting, to ensure that nothing worrisome is going on with yours. READ MORE

  • How soon should you go to the hospital after your water breaks?

You should seek care as soon as possible after your water breaks. Once this happens, if you remain undelivered for more than 18-24 hours, unfortunately, your risk of infection in the uterus starts to increase. It is best to seek care early to get the ball rolling for your child's safe and healthy delivery :) READ MORE

  • What if a pregnancy test shows negative but still no period?

Two possibilities. 1. You could be pregnant, but not far enough along for your urine pregnancy test to be positive. This typically turns positive 2 wks after conception and you could have ovulated and conceived later than usual. You can repeat your pregnancy test or see a doctor to evaluate what could be going on 2. There may a hormonal condition that is making your periods irregular. This could be perimenopause, PCOS, a thyroid condition, a pituitary gland condition , etc. Again, seeing your doctor to evaluate this further can shed some light on this and begin a treatment plan. This is important because irregular periods over many years, can increase the risk of cancer in the endometrium( the uterine lining) READ MORE
