Get to know Hematologist-Oncologist Dr. Maxim Kreditor, who serves patients in New York, New York. 

Dr. Kreditor, a NYU Langone hematologist-oncologist, works at Perlmutter Cancer Center in New York City, New York. He specializes in treating people who have multiple myeloma and lymphoma, in addition to treating those who have lung, breast, and gastrointestinal cancers.

Involved in all aspects of his patients’ care, he believes that every individual is different, and he takes this into account when treating patients. Everyone enters treatment with different priorities and concerns, so he is interested in partnering with each person to create goals of care that work for him or her.

Combining visionary thinking and compassionate care with the science of treating cancer, Perlmutter Cancer Center is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)–designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. It performs cutting-edge basic, translational, clinical, and population research that enhances cancer prevention, treatments, outcomes, and quality of life for patients. Committed to offering complete care, Dr. Kreditor works with a wonderful team of doctors at NYU Langone. They regularly attend conferences in which oncologists from different subspecialties can discuss patients’ diagnoses and treatments and make collaborative decisions on the best plans of care. Ultimately, the vast majority of his patients receive consensus opinions from 15 to 30 practicing physicians.

Alongside his clinical role, he serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor within the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology & Medical Oncology at New York University Grossman School of Medicine.

A 1998 graduate of Sackler School of Medicine, Dr. Kreditor went on to perform his residency in hematology and his fellowship in medical oncology at New York University Grossman School of Medicine in 2002 and 2004, respectively. 

Licensed to practice medicine in New York, the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Hematology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of the cause, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to blood. Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A hematologist-oncologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of cancer, malignant blood diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma, and blood disorders such as iron-deficiency anemia, clotting abnormalities, hemophilia, and sickle-cell disease.

In honor of his clinical expertise, Dr. Kreditor is the recipient of Patients’ Choice Award (2008, 2020) and On-Time Doctor Award (2020).
