As the CEO of Advanced Heart and Vascular of Central Jersey, Dr. Farrugia is committed to dismantling corporate barriers in healthcare, ensuring that the patient-physician relationship remains paramount. With affiliations at esteemed institutions including Monmouth Medical Center, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, he is poised to revolutionize patient care in the region.  

Dr. Farrugia’s journey into the medical field is one of passion and perseverance. Born on Long Island to Maltese immigrant parents, he exhibited dedication from a young age. His academic journey began at King’s College, where he earned a dual degree in Biology and Molecular Biology, graduating as an AP Scholar with distinction. His commitment to excellence led him to the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University, where he furthered his medical education.    

While in medical school, Dr. Farrugia married his college sweetheart, Erin, marking the beginning of a partnership that would extend into both their personal and professional lives. Following his marriage, he completed his internal medicine residency at SUNY Stony Brook, then pursued a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical Center in Manhattan. There, he specialized in advanced techniques such as radial artery catheterization and endovascular procedures, equipping him with the skills necessary to provide top-tier cardiovascular care.  

After further training in interventional cardiology at Winthrop University Hospital on Long Island, Dr. Farrugia and his family moved to New Jersey in July 2011, where he joined Barnabas Health Medical Group. His tenure there included roles as the Director of Outpatient Vascular Medicine and Chief of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Monmouth Medical Center. It was during this time that Dr. Farrugia recognized the need for a new care delivery model, leading to the founding of Advanced Heart and Vascular of Central Jersey.   

As a board-certified interventional cardiologist and vascular specialist, Dr. Farrugia’s credentials reflect his dedication to advancing cardiac and vascular medicine. His status as a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI) underscores his commitment to maintaining the highest standards of care.  

Dr. Farrugia’s approach to medicine is deeply rooted in the belief that patient comfort and understanding are essential to effective care. He prioritizes clear communication and a supportive environment, ensuring that each patient feels valued and empowered to participate in their own healthcare decisions. This philosophy is central to the mission of Advanced Heart and Vascular of Central Jersey, where patients are treated with the utmost respect and compassion.  

Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Farrugia embodies the spirit of community and family. He is a devoted husband to Erin and a proud father to four active children: Samantha, Vincent, Brianna, and Thomas. Together, they share life with their energetic Labradoodle, Private. Dr. Farrugia also dedicates time to coaching local youth sports teams in baseball, basketball, and softball, instilling values of teamwork and dedication in the next generation.  

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. Farrugia and Erin have taken up ballroom dancing, achieving certification up to Bronze Level 3 in various dances, showcasing their commitment to both personal growth and shared experiences.
