What are the side effects of a wisdom tooth extraction?
I believe that you may be asking about complications. Complications are when problems occur during or after the procedure. These may include the following. · Infection of the tissues around the area where your wisdom tooth was removed. · Accidental damage to teeth nearby. · Dry socket. This is when the blood clot comes off your wound exposing the bone and nerves underneath. It can be painful and cause bad breath too. See FAQs for more information. · Damage to nerves. This can cause pain, tingling, pins and needles and numbness. This can affect your lips, tongue, gums and teeth. It’s usually temporary, but there is a small chance it could be permanent. · A broken jaw, though this is extremely rare. Most people don't have any problems after having their wisdom teeth removed. But you should get medical advice if you have symptoms of any of the complications listed above. The exact risks are specific to you and will differ for every person, so we haven’t included statistics here. Ask your dentist or oral surgeon to explain how these risks apply to you. READ MORE

How long does a dental bridge last?
It’s hard to say because it depends on what caused you to loose the tooth initially & if that behavior or factor is still present. Bridges often last 15 years or more but if you drink a lot of soda, grind your teeth, and/or smoke it might only last 5 years. Time in mouth depends on how well you take care of yourself. READ MORE

What are the disadvantages of dental bridges?
Bridges involve creating a crown for the tooth or implant on either side of the missing tooth, with a pontic in between. The disadvantage with a bridge is that the teeth adjacent to the missing tooth need to be crowned & that you are essentially tying 3 or more teeth together. So if 1 tooth fails, 3 or more teeth are lost. Sometimes, however, a bridge is the best restoration given the situation. Ideal treatment for a single tooth replacement, however, is a dental implant. READ MORE

Get to know Dentist Dr. Max Kerr, who serves patients in Texas.
Born in Lubbock and raised in Amarillo, Dr. Kerr is a skilled dentist who provides excellent dental service for Central Texas families at Vista Ridge Family Dentistry. From general and cosmetic dentistry to restorative and emergency dentistry, he tends to dental needs under one roof.
Upholding values for quality and compassionate care, the entire team of dental professionals at Vista Ridge Family Dentistry are all about cultivating an environment that makes patients feel like part of the family. They hold themselves to high standards of excellence, so that patients never have doubts about whether they are receiving top-notch comprehensive care. Likewise, they offer flexible office hours, a comprehensive service menu, and simple financing options to help fit dental goals into one’s budget.
In Dr. Kerr’s own life, sleep apnea has hit very close to home as both his mother-in-law and grandfather suffered severe strokes caused by their sleep apnea. To prevent this from occurring in his own patients, he began his extensive training with dental sleep medicine.
With a unique perspective on the oral airway, he takes pride in creating sustainable solutions that treat breathing and airway disorders at Sleep Better Austin. He is focused on maximizing health and coaching others to do so too.
“I am lucky enough to be able to care for people and their health. It is amazing to be able to give someone a smile that they are proud of or a good night’s sleep for the first time in years. These events are life changing and I am honored to help patients through them as well as coach providers on how to deliver the same experiences to their own patients” expressed the dentist.
Committed to treating his patients with the highest standard to help them live a long and fruitful life, Dr. Kerr is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine (D-ABDSM). He is also a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and the Academy of Clinical Sleep Disorders Disciplines.
After breaking his tooth during a football game, Dr. Kerr’s childhood dentist met him at 11 o’clock that evening to fix his tooth so that he wouldn’t be in pain and could “still smile at the girls.” That extraordinary dental experience led him to attend the University of Texas Dental School in San Antonio — and to become a dentist who provides superior care for Cedar Park families today.
He obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2007 and spent five years providing dental care for underserved children in San Antonio and Roswell, New Mexico. In May of 2013, he decided to take a break from working in the corporate dental world, where he felt patients were treated more like numbers than people. He opened Vista Ridge Family Dentistry with the goal of creating strong relationships with his patients and the community.
An active member of the American Dental Association, Dr. Kerr is passionate about continuing education. Through his ongoing coursework, he has acquired a strong knowledge base in Level II Conscious Sedation, Six Month Smiles®, and comprehensive orthodontics.
Giving back to the local community, he enjoys providing charitable dentistry to patients that cannot afford the care that they need. He also positively impacts the lives of others by leveraging his financial abundance through charitable giving. “I was honored to be recognized as “The Big Giver” by Austin’s “I Live Here, I Give Here” organization. I received the award because my personal and charitable contributions have helped many people who cannot normally afford dental care, receive the care that they need. I enjoy teaching others how to create successful dental\sleep apnea practices as well. My consulting platform, High Trust Practice, is focused on encouraging scale-able teamwork and trust throughout practices” as stated by Dr. Kerr.
Dentistry, also known as Dental and Oral Medicine, is a branch of medicine that consists of the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity. Dentists diagnose and treat dental issues and help patients develop better oral hygiene regimens. They clean teeth, correct bite issues, perform surgeries and extractions, and perform other duties to ensure that the teeth and mouth are healthy.
Outside of work, Dr. Kerr is passionate about personal growth through reading and exercising, but what he enjoys most of all is spending time with his supportive wife, Jeannie, and his daughters, Kiran and Korey, whom he adores.
