Get to know Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Andrew S. Ellowitz, who serves patients in Plantation, Florida.
Dr. Ellowitz, a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, is the owner of Personal Orthopaedic Care in Plantation, Florida. With over two decades of experience, he practices general orthopaedics with special interests in adult and pediatric fracture care, arthroscopy of the shoulder and knee, and total joint replacement.
As an Assistant Clinical Professor at Nova Southeastern University, he helps to train orthopaedic resident physicians. He is also on call at a Level I Trauma Center, has been the Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Plantation General Hospital since 2008, as well as maintains hospital privileges at several South Florida hospitals.
A 1992 graduate of The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont, Dr. Ellowitz completed his residency in orthopaedics at the University of Minnesota in 1997.
Building on that experience, he became board-certified in orthopaedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.
In order to stay up to date in his field, he remains a member of the Fort Lauderdale Surgical Society, the Broward County Orthopaedic Society, the Florida Orthopaedic Society, the Broward County Medical Association, the Florida Medical Association, and the American Medical Association. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Orthopaedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopaedic surgeons use both surgical and nonsurgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders. They work in clinical and hospital settings.
