Get to know Cardiologist Dr. Alfred C. Myaing, who serves patients in Alexandria, Virginia.

With over 55 years of experience, Dr. Myaing is a highly trained cardiologist with Alexandria Medical Services in Virginia.

Specializing in the diagnosis, treatment and management of heart conditions, he can also be found on staff at Inova Alexandria Hospital, Inova Loudoun Hospital, and Inova Mount Vernon Hospital.

The doctor’s acclaimed career in medicine began after he earned his medical degree from the  University of Medicine 1, Yangon in Burma in 1968. He then relocated to the United States, performing his internship at Somerset Medical Center and his residency at Doctors Hospital in Washington, D.C., where he served as chief resident from 1973-1974. 

Furthering his training, Dr. Myaing performed fellowships in cardiology and cardiovascular disease at Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia and Deborah Heart and Lung Center in 1976.

With a commitment to excellence in heart health, he is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).
