Get to know Otolaryngologist Dr. Joseph H. Mishell, who serves patients throughout the State of Illinois.

A highly respected otolaryngologist, Dr. Mishell has devoted his career to serving the Chicago area. He is currently affiliated with North Shore Ear, Nose & Throat Associates, tending to patients at their Highland Park and Long Grove offices.

With over 30 years of experience in the field, he has become a trusted and sought-after physician for all aspects of otolaryngology. He is particularly interested in treating sinus disorders and working with pediatric patients, and he takes great pride in treating different members of the same family over the course of his career.

Back in 1981, Dr. Mishell obtained his undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan. He graduated with his medical degree from the University of Illinois in Chicago in 1985, before completing his residency and chief residency at the same educational venue in 1990. 

His love for medicine stems from its diversity and the wide spectrum of disorders that it encompasses. He strongly believes in bringing all aspects of medicine together in a thorough manner, and he approaches his patients with a combination of compassionate care and good listening.

An authority in his field, the doctor is board-certified in otolaryngology by the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, which is a non-profit corporation that has set the mission of ensuring professional standards with certificates and memberships and has offered training in the fields of head neck surgery to professionals since 1924.

Otolaryngology is the oldest medical specialty in the United States. Pediatric otolaryngologists are primarily concerned with medical and surgical treatment of ear, nose, and throat diseases in children. They generally provide the following services: diagnosis and treatment of ear, nose, and throat disorders, as well as head and neck diseases.

As a testament to his dedication to his patients, Dr. Mishell has been recognized as a Top Doctor by various rating agencies, and was the recipient of both the Patients’ Choice Award and On-Time Doctor Award in 2018.

Outside of his medical practice, he is a devoted husband and father who enjoys spending time with his family. He also has a passion for movies, reading, music, exercise, and politics. He resides in Northbrook, where he has lived for most of his life.
