Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Vdovenko graduated with his medical degree from Dnipropetrovsk Medical Institute in Ukraine in 1985. Upon relocating to the United States, he performed his internship and residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, and an additional residency in pathology at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine. This was followed by a fellowship in surgical pathology at Hartford Hospital.

Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in anatomic and clinical pathology through the American Board of Pathology (ABPath). The mission of the ABPath is to promote the health of the public and advance the practice and science of pathology by establishing voluntary certification standards and assessing the qualifications of those seeking to practice the specialty of pathology.
