Get to know Geriatrician Dr. Yasmin Ansari, who serves patients in Portland, Oregon.

Dr. Ansari is a board-certified geriatrician whose clinical interests include palliative medicine and care of the elderly and under-insured population. She is affiliated with Veterans Affairs Medical Center, a 227-bed, acute care medical facility in Portland, Oregon. Opened in 1929, it is located on Marquam Hill adjacent to Oregon Health & Sciences University and is connected to Oregon Health & Science University Hospital. 

Alongside her affiliation with Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Dr. Ansari serves as an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University – a public university in Oregon with a main campus, including two hospitals, in Portland.

In 1996, she earned her medical degree from the Deccan College of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad, India. Upon relocating to the United States, she went on to complete her residency in internal medicine at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey, followed by her fellowship in geriatric medicine at Oregon Health & Science University.

To stay up to date in her field, Dr. Ansari maintains a professional membership with the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, and the American Geriatric Society. Moreover, she holds board certification in geriatric medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Geriatrics, or geriatric medicine, is a specialty that focuses on health care of elderly people. It aims to promote health by preventing and treating diseases and disabilities in older adults. A geriatrician, like Dr. Ansari, is a healthcare provider who focuses on patient well-being and independent functioning. These allopathic or osteopathic healthcare providers are specifically trained to evaluate and manage the unique health care needs and special treatment requirements of older people.
