Get to know Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Venkatesh Y. Anjan, who serves patients throughout the State of Illinois.

Dr. Anjan is a fellowship-trained interventional cardiologist with Prairie Cardiovascular in Belleville, Illinois. 

His primary practice is based at HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, where he dedicates himself to providing comprehensive care to his patients. For the convenience of those seeking his expertise, he is also available at the outpatient clinic located at Highland Specialty Clinic.

Dr. Anjan’s approach to medicine is guided by a deeply ingrained principle – he treats his patients with the same level of care and compassion that he would desire for himself. This commitment to the Golden Rule underscores his dedication to delivering patient-centered healthcare and ensuring the well-being and satisfaction of those under his care.

In his pursuit of a distinguished medical education, Dr. Anjan attended the University of Arizona College of Medicine, graduating with his Medical Degree. 

His residency took place at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. This formative period equipped him with the essential foundation to excel in his medical career, and it marked the beginning of his journey towards becoming a highly regarded cardiovascular specialist.

Dr. Anjan furthered his training through an esteemed cardiovascular fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. To elevate his expertise in the field, he pursued a fellowship in interventional cardiology, also at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. This advanced fellowship equipped him with the skills and knowledge necessary to perform intricate cardiac procedures and provide top-notch care to patients with complex cardiovascular issues. 

Continuously advancing his efforts, the doctor is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who excel and strive to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Furthermore, Dr. Anjan is board certified through the National Board of Echocardiography, a physician, volunteer-led not-for-profit corporation established in 1996 to develop and administer examinations in the field of Clinical Echocardiography.

His key professional memberships include the American College of Cardiology (Fellow), the American Heart Association, and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions.

Interventional cardiology is a subspecialty of cardiology that uses various diagnostic tools and imaging techniques to measure cardiovascular functions such as blood pressure and blood flow in major arteries throughout the body and within the different chambers of the heart. An interventional cardiologist specializes in diagnosing and treating conditions and diseases of the heart and blood vessels using nonsurgical, catheter-based procedures and specialized imaging techniques.
