Get to know Ophthalmologist Dr. David Plotner, who serves the Escondido, California area at his private practice, Eye Specialists of Escondido, and several local hospitals. Previously, Dr. Plotner was instrumental in bringing the first EXCIMER LASER to North San Diego County and performed many of the first laser procedures in the area. Dr. Plotner has participated in many ocular research projects and served as the Medical Director for the San Diego Chapter of the Flying Samaritans. He established ophthalmic surgery programs at the Mexicali Red Cross Hospital in Baja California and at the LBJ Tropical Medical Center in American Samoa. Dr. Plotner earned his medical degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine, then continued his studies with an internship at the Scripps Mercy Hospital. He completed a residency in ophthalmology at the University of California San Diego. Dr. Plotner has been board certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Plotner has performed thousands of laser and surgical procedures and has received numerous awards over his over 30 years of practicing medicine in San Diego County. To stay current in his field, Dr. Plotner maintains professional memberships with prestigious medical organizations. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and a member of the San Diego Eye Bank.
