Celebrating Over Two Decades of Excellence at Arthritis and Pain Associates of PG County
Dr. Donald Thomas has been a cornerstone of the Arthritis and Pain Associates of PG County since June 1998, providing expert care in rheumatology from the practice’s office in Greenbelt, Maryland. With a commitment to improving the lives of patients suffering from rheumatic diseases, Dr. Thomas is also an Associate Professor of Medicine at the esteemed Uniformed Services University, where he teaches at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
Dr. Thomas earned his Medical Degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, in 1989, and completed his rheumatology fellowship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in 1995. Throughout his career, he has been dedicated to advancing the field of rheumatology. As a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) and the American College of Rheumatology (FACR), he was among the first group of rheumatologists certified by the ACR in the innovative use of ultrasound for diagnosing and treating rheumatic diseases (RhMSUS).
His contributions extend beyond clinical practice; Dr. Thomas is an accomplished author, credited with penning “The Lupus Encyclopedia: A Comprehensive Guide for Patients and Families,” published by The Johns Hopkins University Press. He has served as Chair Emeritus of the Medical and Scientific Advisory Board of the Lupus Foundation (DC/MD/VA) chapter and is currently the Chair of the National Board of Directors of the Sjogren’s Foundation. His volunteer efforts with the American College of Rheumatology on the Committee on Rheumatologic Care focus on enhancing patient care nationwide.
Dr. Thomas’s dedication to excellence in rheumatology has earned him a distinguished list of accolades. He has received the AMA’s Physician Recognition Award annually since 2000, with special commendation from 2007 to 2015.
