Dr. Carr is a highly accomplished physician-scientist who has made significant contributions to the field of gastroenterology. As the Cyrus E. Rubin Chair and Division Head of Gastroenterology at the University of Washington, she oversees a team of researchers and clinicians who are dedicated to studying and treating liver diseases, particularly non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and alcoholic liver disease (ALD).
Her research is focused on understanding the mechanisms of insulin resistance in these liver diseases, using both in vivo and cellular approaches. Throughout her academic career, Dr. Carr received her medical degree at Cornell University Medical College and went on to complete an internship and residency in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. She then pursued a fellowship in gastroenterology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania before completing a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania.
