Get to know Hematologist-Oncologist Dr. Lisa D. Ahrendt, who serves patients in Denver, Colorado.

Hematologist-oncologist, Dr. Ahrendt is affiliated with SCL Health, providing her services at SCL Health Saint Joseph Hospital and SCL Health Lutheran Medical Center. Her areas of expertise include breast cancer, cancer genetics/cancer risk assessment, and gastrointestinal cancer.

Locally, she is also affiliated with National Jewish Health-Denver and Swedish Medical Center.

Graduating with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Washington University, Dr. Ahrendt went on to earn her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine. She then furthered her training with a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in hematology-oncology at Tufts Medical Center.

With years of experience in her field, the doctor is board-certified in medical oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Among her professional affiliations, Dr. Ahrendt is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncologists, the American Society of Hematology, and the American Medical Association.

Hematology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of the cause, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to blood. Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A hematologist-oncologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of blood diseases and cancers such as iron-deficiency anemia, hemophilia, sickle-cell disease, leukemia, and lymphoma. 

The  recipient of several awards, Dr. Ahrendt was honored with the Patients’ Choice Award (2015) and the On-Time Doctor Award (2015).
