Get to know Family Physician Dr. John S. Kim, who serves patients in Austin, Texas.

Dr. Kim is a trusted family physician at Victory Medical in South Austin, Texas. He has over 24 years of experience working with patients, and he believes that sustained health and wellness is a cooperative effort between patient and doctor.

An affiliated MDVIP physician since 2020, he strives to stay up to date with the latest studies to ensure each patient always receives cutting-edge care. As a personal doctor, he has the time to really know his patients and their personalities so he can partner with them to create a personalized healthcare plan to help them meet their medical needs. People are able to manage their health effectively if they understand their conditions; consequently, Dr. Kim spends a lot of time making sure his patients comprehend their medical problems by simplifying complex medical jargon.

He has extensive experience as a diagnostician, managing complex internal medicine problems with empathy and compassion. However, his real passion is preventive medicine; there is so much medical knowledge available to help prevent disease, but it is being underutilized in the current medical model. His MDVIP-affiliated personalized practice, similar to concierge medicine, gives him the time and tools needed to help his patients meet and exceed their health goals.

With a broad educational background, Dr. Kim obtained his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 1994. He then went on to perform his residency in family medicine at John Sealy Hospital in 1997.

A member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, he is board-certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). The ABFM is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties.

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility.

Among his most notable achievements, Dr. Kim has been awarded the William A. Wilson Award for Scholarly and Clinical Achievement. He was also included in Austin Monthly’s list of Best Doctors in 2013.
