Get to know Critical Care Specialist and Intensivist Dr. Shahriar Amin, who serves patients in Columbia, Maryland.

Dr. Amin is a triple board-certified, fellowship trained Critical Care Specialist and Intensivist caring for patients that are in critical condition. He is the Medical Director of the ICU & SCU at Howard County General Hospital.

Located in Columbia, Maryland, Howard County General Hospital combines the convenience of a full range of hospital and wellness services, more than 1000 affiliated doctors in nearly 100 clinical specialties, award winning clinical excellence, and membership in Johns Hopkins Medicine, one of the country’s premier academic medical systems.

Educated in Iran, Dr. Amin graduated with his medical degree from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in 1992. He then relocated to the United States, performing his residency in internal medicine at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in 2003. He also completed his fellowship in critical care medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science in 2008.

Successful in his field, the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine, critical care medicine, and hospice and palliative medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Holding fellowship status, Dr. Amin is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) and a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP). 

Moreover, he is a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Critical Care Medicine, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, and the American Thoracic Society.

On a more personal note, Dr. Amin is fluent in several languages, including English, German, and Farsi.
