Dr. Heupel attended the F. Edward Hébert School of Medicine at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, and received her medical degree in 1993. She also completed an internship (2002 - 2003) and occupational medicine residency (2003 - 2004) through the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine. Moreover, Dr. Heupel holds a Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of occupational and Environmental Medicine.
Subsequent to his training, Dr. Heupel received board certification in occupational medicine and aerospace medicine through the American Board of Preventive Medicine. The American Board of Preventive Medicine was established to promote the health and safety of the American people through high standards in the certification and maintenance of certification in the profession of preventive health.
