Dr. Heupel is a board-certified occupational medicine and aerospace medicine physician in practice at Maxwell-Gunter Medical Clinic at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, Alabama. She is also the Medical Director of Occupational Medicine at the CAMI Clinic of the Federal Aviation Administration in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Her focus is the health and safety of the workers who work at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center in Oklahoma City. Dr. Heupel is licensed to practice medicine in Oklahoma, New Mexico, and California.

Dr. Heupel attended the F. Edward Hébert School of Medicine at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, and received her medical degree in 1993. She also completed an internship (2002 - 2003) and occupational medicine residency (2003 - 2004) through the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine. Moreover, Dr. Heupel holds a Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of occupational and Environmental Medicine. 

Subsequent to his training, Dr. Heupel received board certification in occupational medicine and aerospace medicine through the American Board of Preventive Medicine. The American Board of Preventive Medicine was established to promote the health and safety of the American people through high standards in the certification and maintenance of certification in the profession of preventive health.

Occupational medicine is a medical specialty that is concerned with diagnosing, managing and preventing disease that has been caused or exacerbated by workplace factors. Occupational medicine physicians are concerned with all aspects of the effects of work on health and health on work.
