Get to know Breast Surgical Oncologist Dr. Ryland J. Gore, who serves patients in Cumming, Georgia.
Dr. Gore is a board-certified, fellowship-trained surgeon in breast surgical oncology who specializes in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of benign and cancerous breast cancers, as well as all breast-related disorders. Affectionately called “Dr. G” by her patients and staff, she is in practice with North Atlanta Breast Care, proudly serving the Cumming and North Atlanta communities from a convenient location on the Northside Hospital Forsyth Medical Campus.
A highly-trained physician skilled in advanced breast surgery procedures and minimally-invasive techniques, Dr. Gore has devoted her life and practice to women’s health and caring for women who are diagnosed with breast cancer. She prides herself on delivering compassionate care that is rooted in educating women and always promoting women’s empowerment despite a devastating diagnosis.
Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Gore attended Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina where she graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Fueled by her passion for women’s health and a desire to make sure that she could one day address determinants of health on a community level, she then attended The George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services and graduated on the Dean’s List.
Dr. Gore knew since the age of 11 that she wanted to be a physician and realized her dream when she was accepted into Morehouse School of Medicine. After graduating medical school in 2011, she began her residency in general surgery in Chicago, Illinois in the integrated program at Rush University Medical Center and John H. Stroger Cook County Hospital. That experience served as an opportunity for her to not only become a sharp and well-trained surgeon, but to also develop and refine her surgical interests, which include management of surgical diseases, as well as educating others and speaking prolifically about disparities in surgical care and education.
Wanting to continue her education after completing residency, Dr. Gore moved to Brooklyn, New York where she completed her fellowship in breast surgical oncology at Maimonides Medical Center. During this time, she was specially trained in how to treat breast cancer and other breast diseases from a multidisciplinary perspective. Upon finishing fellowship, she moved back home to Atlanta to begin her career caring for the very community that helped raise her.
Subsequent to her training, she attained board certification in surgical oncology through the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
In addition to her professional responsibilities, Dr. Gore is a newly-elected board member for Every Woman Works, Inc., an Atlanta-based non-profit organization whose mission is to empower women and help them transition into independence and stability from common setbacks, such as substance dependency, the penal system, homelessness, and domestic violence. She was also recently named Chairwoman of the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign, a fundraiser and walk specifically for breast cancer patients and survivors, with 100% of proceeds dedicated to helping them on their journey.
Always up to date on new breast health and breast cancer developments, she is a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Association for Public Health Physicians, and the American Society of Breast Surgeons. She also performs the latest techniques in breast cancer care, ensuring that the patient feels confident during treatment.
Surgical oncology is the branch of surgery applied to oncology. It focuses on the surgical management of tumors, especially cancerous tumors. A breast surgical oncologist is a surgeon who specializes in breast cancer and other diseases of the breast.
An advocate in her field, Dr. Gore is a highly sought after speaker, consultant, and lecturer on breast cancer and breast health, as well as women’s empowerment topics. She is known to say that her mission is to make health information relatable and accessible, taking hard to understand topics away from the ivory tower and breaking it down for the everyday woman to understand. She takes this same passion into the operating room, helping to fight breast cancer evicting one tumor at a time.
In her free time, she enjoys painting, listening to jazz, visiting aquariums and museums, and travelling on road trips.
