Get to know Anesthesiologist Dr. Jose C. Humanez, who serves patients in Jacksonville, Florida.

A knowledgeable anesthesiologist, Dr. Humanez is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville. 

Originally from Colombia, he graduated with his medical degree from the Universidad De Antioquia School of Medicine in 2000. After relocating to the United States, he completed his residency in internal medicine at UM Prince George’s Hospital Center in 2009, and his residency in anesthesiology at the John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County in 2012. Finally, he completed his fellowship in critical care medicine at the University of Chicago in 2013.

An expert in his field, the doctor is board-certified in anesthesiology and critical care medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). As the certifying body for anesthesiologists since 1938, the ABA is committed to partnering with physicians to advance lifelong learning and exceptional patient care. Its mission is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology.

Maintaining fellowship status, Dr. Humanez is a Fellow of both the American Society of Anesthesiologists (FASA), and the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP).

In order to remain up to date in his field, he is an active member of the American College of Medical Quality (CMQ), the American College of Critical Care Medicine, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the International Anesthesia Research Society, the American Medical Association, and the Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists.

Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. Anesthesiologists have a vast amount of responsibilities that include vigilant monitoring of the patient’s vital signs during surgery, managing acute pain, maintaining safety, and most importantly, acting as the patient’s advocate in the operating room.
