Get to know Anesthesiologist and Pain Medicine Specialist, Dr. Theodore E. Workman Jr., who serves patients in Redding, California.

Dr. Workman Jr. is a remarkable anesthesiologist and pain medicine physician working at his own private practice, Redding Pain Medicine, in Redding, California. Holding added training in stem cell therapies, Dr. Workman Jr. is an affiliate of the Cell Surgical Network®. His expertise covers neuromodulation, including Spinal Cord(SCS) and Dorsal Root Ganglion(DRG) Stimulation, while his clinical interests include regenerative medicine. Over the years, he has carried out over 20,000 spinal injections in his medical career.

After 25 years as a solo practitioner in Redding (1989-2014), Dr. Workman Jr. merged his practice – Anesthesia and Pain Specialists – with Dr. Soloniuk to become a full-time pain medicine physician at Redding Pain Medicine. “Redding Pain Medicine came from a vision of providing the highest quality, safe, patient-focused pain care in an environment that encourages excellence, innovation, and teamwork. Dr. Workman Jr. commenced his educational journey at the University of Michigan, where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biomedical Science. He remained with the University of Michigan and completed his medical degree in 1984. Dr. Workman Jr. performed his anesthesiology residency training at the University of Arizona College of Medicine (1984-1988). 

Licensed to practice in Georgia, California, Arizona, and Florida, he remains affiliated with  Mercy Medical Center, Redding (1990-present), Mercy Medical Center, Mt. Shasta (2006-present), Soloniuk Pain Clinic, and Apogee Outpatient Surgery Center. Earlier in his career, he has served as Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Arizona, in Tucson, Co-director of the Tucson VA Pain Clinic, and Department Chairman of Anesthesiology at Mercy Medical Center.

Following his training, Dr. Workman Jr. attained board certification in anesthesiology through the American Board of Anesthesiology. The American Board of Anesthesiology sets standards and exams for the accreditation of Board certified anesthesiologists coming to the end of their residency. It is one of the 24 medical specialty boards that constitutes the American Board of Medical Specialties.

Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine.

Pain management is a branch of medicine that uses an interdisciplinary approach for easing the suffering and improving the quality of life of those living with chronic pain.

To remain at the forefront of his specialties, Dr. Workman Jr. is an active member of the American Society of Anesthesiology, the Society California Society of Anesthesiology, the International Spine Intervention Society, the International Anesthesia Research Society, the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologist, the North American Neuromodulation Society, the American Academy of Pain Medicine, and the Society of Ambulatory Anesthesia.

On a more personal note, Dr. Workman dedicates his spare time to being outdoors, either gardening or snowboarding, wakeboarding, or scuba diving.
