Get to know Pulmonologist Dr. Sandeep Gupta, who serves patients in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Gupta is an experienced and compassionate pulmonologist who has been in practice since 1995. He began his practice at Houston Pulmonary Medicine Associates, PA and for the past two decades has saved countless number of lives.

“At Houston Pulmonary Medicine Associates, we provide total service for all conditions related to pulmonary (respiratory) medicine and sleep disorders. Since 1982, our well trained and experienced doctors have practiced state-of-the-art medicine right in your backyard, in Southeast Houston. We are big on credentials and achievements, but bigger on bedside manner and customer service” as stated on their website. 

Remaining committed to caring for his patients, Dr. Gupta’s interests include all areas of lung diseases and sleep disorders. He takes special interest in diagnosing and taking care of patients with alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiencies and also assists in disability evaluations. He approaches patients from their complaint perspective and prides in being a good diagnostician by reaching patients’ treatment goals promptly with a “do no harm” philosophy.

Named Physician of the Year at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital in 2000, he serves as the Medical Director of Informatics (since August of 2007) and as the Medical Director of the Pulmonary and Sleep Department (since July of 2008). He is also affiliated with Memorial Hermann Pearland Hospital, Kindred Hospital Clear Lake, Cornerstone Hospital, Luke’s Patients Medical Center, and Bay Area Regional Hospital.

Holding academic positions at both Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Texas Medical Branch, Dr. Gupta precepts and mentors medical, physician assistant, and nurse practitioner students. 

In addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (FAASM), he is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the Harris County Medical Society, and the Texas Medical Association.

The doctor’s journey into medicine began after he obtained his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree from Maulana Azad Medical College in India in 1987. He then went on to perform his residency in internal medicine at the State University of New York in 1992, and his fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Virginia in 1995. 

Dedicated to excellence, Dr. Gupta is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, critical care medicine, and sleep medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Furthermore, he is board-certified in clinical informatics by the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM). The ABPM is a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties that issues “certificates of special knowledge” in the specialty of preventive medicine.

Pulmonology is a medical specialty that deals with diseases involving the respiratory tract. A pulmonologist is an internal medicine physician who specializes in preventing, diagnosing, and treating conditions and diseases that affect the lungs, bronchial tubes, and the respiratory system, including the nose, pharynx, and throat.

On a more personal note, Dr. Gupta is fluent in both English and Hindi.
