Get to know General Surgeon Dr. Kevin J. Masur, who serves patients in Mesa, Arizona.

Dr. Masur is a board certified general surgeon who is affiliated with Advanced Surgical Associates in Mesa, Arizona. Dr. Masur is board certified in surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

Dr. Masur is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the Phoenix Surgical Society. He is also a member of the Banner Desert Surgery Committee, the Banner Desert Surgery Peer Review Committee, and the Banner Desert Tumor Board. Furthermore, he is Vice Chair of Surgery at Banner Desert and an Assistant Professor at Banner University.

Born and raised in north central Indiana, Dr. Masur attended Wabash College, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology. While in college, he was a member of the Alpha-Pi Chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He then went on to earn his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 2005. Thereafter, he completed his surgical residency in the Phoenix Integrated Surgical Residency Program at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix. Dr. Masur attributes his success to his excellent clinical training and the tremendous support of his colleagues at the group practice.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. A general surgeon performs a wide range of abdominal surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and pancreatic disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care.
