Get to know Cardiologist Dr. David Paniagua, who serves patients in Houston, Texas.

A determined cardiologist, Dr. Paniagua is affiliated with Houston Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He specializes in coronary stents, structural heart disease, percutaneous heart valves, and hemodynamics.

With a broad educational background, Dr. Paniagua earned his medical degree from the University of Costa Rica in 1986. He completed his advanced training at the National Cardiovascular Center in Osaka, Japan in 1990, before relocating to the United States where he completed his residency in cardiovascular disease at the Mount Sinai Medical Center of Florida in 1996, and his fellowship in interventional cardiology at the Baylor College of Medicine in 2000.

An authority in his field, the doctor is board-certified in interventional cardiology, cardiovascular disease, and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

With a passion for teaching, he serves as an Assistant Professor of Cardiology at the Baylor College of Medicine.

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology.
