Get to know Anesthesiologist & Pain Management Specialist Dr. Norvan Vartevan, who serves patients in Paradise Valley, Arizona. 

Fluent in both English and Armenian, Dr. Vartevan is a dual board-certified anesthesiologist & pain management specialist. With a focus on modern, advanced and expert pain care, he offers customized treatment plans based on patients’ own unique pain conditions at Camelback Interventional & Pain in Paradise Valley, Arizona.

The mission of Camelback Interventional & Pain is to help patients reduce their pain with a non-narcotic approach utilizing minimally invasive procedures; so, they can return to living their lives to the fullest. Some of the services offered include pain injections, steroid injections, opioid & narcotic free, and regenerative medicine.

With a broad educational background, Dr. Vartevan graduated from the prestigious University of Oklahoma in 2008. He received his bachelor’s degree in Zoology from the College of Arts and Sciences, and then attended Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine where he graduated with his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree in 2012. He began his residency in anesthesia at Nova Southeastern University and served as chief resident for two years during his training. Thereafter, he decided to begin his own practice and started Camelback Interventional & Pain in 2019.

“I started Camelback Interventional and Pain because I saw how many patients were getting operated on without the option of less invasive treatments as well as regenerative options. I believe that patients should be given a chance to delay major surgery with less invasive means. Also, with the narcotic crisis there is a major problem with pain being covered up with pills. There are more appropriate options other than narcotics to help people with their pain, and they should be given that option” expressed Dr. Vartevan.

Educating patients and treating pain at its source, he is board-certified in anesthesiology and procedural pain medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Anesthesiology (AOBA). The AOBA is an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the administration of anesthetic agents and perioperative medicine.

In good standing with a number of professional organizations, Dr. Vartevan is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Osteopathic College of Anesthesiologists, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia, and the American Osteopathic Association.

Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists have the primary responsibility of monitoring the patient’s vital signs during surgery. In addition to basic measurements such as pulse, blood pressure, and temperature, they measure the patient’s respiration.

Pain management is a branch of medicine employing an interdisciplinary approach for easing the suffering and improving the quality of life of those living with chronic pain. A pain management specialist is a doctor who specializes in pain medicine, focusing on the evaluation, treatment, and prevention of pain.
