Completing his studies at the Royal Academy of Surgical Assisting, Inc., Michael earned his SFA (Surgical First Assistant) certification. 

Further validating his expertise and competence in the field of surgical assisting, he is proud to hold certification from the prestigious American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA). As a leading provider of surgical assistant examination and credentialing, the ABSA strives to develop and maintain quality standards for the surgical assistant, thereby promoting safety and protection of the public.

Surgical assisting involves active participation of a trained individual who is capable and able to assist the surgeon in completing a surgical procedure, safely and expeditiously. An assistant surgeon, also known as a surgical assistant, surgeon’s assistant, assistant in surgery or first assistant, is a healthcare professional who provides direct manual and/or instrumental assistance to meet the in-procedure demands of a surgeon during a surgical operation. Most surgical assistants are trainee surgeons or junior doctors, but in the United Kingdom, a surgical care practitioner, who is not a qualified doctor, may perform simple surgical operations under the supervision of one.
