The doctor’s acclaimed career in medicine began after he earned his medical degree from Government Medical College, Patiala in India in 1988. Upon relocating to the United States, he went on to perform his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in 1997 and 1998, respectively. 

A member of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Kalkat is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Licensed to practice medicine in Oklahoma and California, he is affiliated with Jack C. Montgomery Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Select Specialty Hospital - Tulsa, and The Children’s Hospital at Saint Francis.

Hospital medicine is a medical specialty that exists in some countries as a branch of internal or family medicine, dealing with the care of acutely ill hospitalized patients. Physicians whose primary professional focus is caring for hospitalized patients only while they are in the hospital are called hospitalists.
