Get to know Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Satya S. Polavarapu, who serves patients in New York, New York.

Dr. Polavarapu is a dual board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Good Samaritan University Hospital. 

As a maternal fetal medicine subspecialist, her practice provides care for women with medical, surgical, obstetrical, fetal, and genetic complications associated with pregnancy. Dr. Polavarapu focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of expectant mothers and their babies. She also provides preconception counseling, consultative services, advanced ultrasound diagnosis, and fetal testing and amniocentesis.

As a high-risk pregnancy specialist, Dr. Polavarapu cares for mothers during the most precious, vulnerable, and sometimes scariest time of their lives, which may involve detailed fetal ultrasounds, evidence-based consultations for conditions that may affect maternal health, and pregnancy complications. She has a special interest in ultrasound-diagnosed fetal abnormalities, fetal echocardiogram, diabetes, preterm birth, and preeclampsia. 

Back in 1990, Dr. Polavarapu graduated with her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree from Siddhartha Medical College, a medical school in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. She then relocated to the United States, performing her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at The Brooklyn Hospital Center and her fellowship in maternal and fetal medicine at Westchester Medical Center.

Giving patients her focused attention, the doctor is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology & maternal-fetal medicine by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define specialty standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health.

Licensed to practice medicine in New York, Dr. Polavarapu is affiliated with St. Charles Hospital, Mercy Hospital – Rockville Centre, and St. Catherine of Siena Hospital.

Obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics (covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and gynecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system – vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts).
