Get to know Internist Dr. Abdul Foiz Mohammed Hossain Imam, who serves patients throughout the State of North Carolina.

Dr. Imam is a board-certified internist providing inpatient services at Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center in North Carolina. He is also on active medical staff at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center and Novant Health Kernersville Medical Center.

Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center provides emergency services, maternity care, and various other inpatient and outpatient services. Specialty programs include the pain management clinic, Total Joint Center, geriatric behavioral health, Heart & Vascular Institute, and sleep health.

Following the completion of his medical degree from the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh in 1974, Dr. Imam went on to perform his internship at the same educational venue in 1978. Upon relocating to the United States, he went on to complete an additional residency at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland in 1993.

Committed to his speciality, he is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. He also holds a Certificate of Recognition through the American Diabetes Association (2006) and the American Heart Association (2008).

To advance his efforts, Dr. Imam remains a member of several professional organizations, including the Bangladesh Medical Association of North America, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American College of Physicians. 

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.

Hospital medicine is a medical specialty that exists in some countries as a branch of internal or family medicine, dealing with the care of acutely ill hospitalized patients. Physicians whose primary professional focus is caring for hospitalized patients only while they are in the hospital are called hospitalists.

In addition to English, Dr. Imam speaks Bengali, Persian, and Urdu.
