    Life-style - focus on very low salt (sodium) diet. Many medications help prevent episodic worsening of heart failure, prevent progression of disease and in many cases improve heart function. To name a few - Entresto or older class of medicines called Ace inhibitors, spironolactone (or newer finerenone), beta-blockers, SGLT-2 inhibitors (empagliflozin for example). They are used in combination for best effect. With frequent physician visits, compliance with diet and medications, and with cardiac rehabilitation, heart failure is a very manageable disease today. In general, some common arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation and supraventricular tachycardia can be fixed by a form of mini-invasive surgery called "ablation" which, in many cases, it the treatment of choice.     Yes, chest ache localized to sternum is normal. Sharp, stabbing, on-off pain especially when lying down and relieved by sitting up may indicate pericarditis, which happens fairly often after bypass surgery (because they cut pericardium, a sac in which the heart sits in, open). Severe, crushing chest pain or chest pain worsening with activity would be definitely be concerning. If you feel that you may have pericarditis, which is most commonly temporary, your cardiac surgery team may prescribe an anti-inflammatory or a pain medicine. They may consider doing echocardiogram as well. So, definitely contact them. If you have severe pain, you should be checked out in person, so call your cardiac surgery team right away.     I would not. It’s an injectable medication. So in addition to the active substance (liraglutide) possibly degrading and becoming ineffective, it is possible that potentially toxic substances have formed. Also, the longer the medication sits in the syringe, the more likely it is that bacteria has grown in it (i.e. even though the medication started sterile, it may not have remained so indefinitely). A knowledgeable internist, Dr. Huzicka serves patients at his private practice – Vail International Physicians – in Colorado and, via telemedicine, nationwide and internationally. He works hard to provide outstanding medical care through comprehensive diagnostic workup, timely appointments, and diligent follow-up.

Back in 1997, he earned his medical degree from the First Medical Faculty of Charles University in the Czech Republic. After relocating to the United States, he completed his residency in internal medicine at Allegheny General Hospital in 2002. Finally, he completed a fellowship in allergy & immunology at the Cornell Medical Center in 2003.

Subsequent to his education,  the doctor attained board certification in internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).
