Get to know Cardiologist Dr. David Lefkowitz, who serves patients in New York, New York.

Recognized as an accomplished cardiologist, Dr. Lefkowitz is an Assistant Attending Physician at NewYork-Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City, New York. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine.

NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell, affiliated with Weill Cornell Medicine, is among the foremost academic medical centers in the world with 862 beds providing emergency, primary, and specialty care in virtually every field of medicine. It is committed to excellence in patient care, research, education, and community service.  

A 1987 graduate of SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, Dr. Lefkowitz went on to serve his residency in internal medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Jacobi Medical Center. He completed his fellowships in cardiovascular disease at NewYork-Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medical Center and at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center.

Following his training, the doctor earned board certification in cardiovascular disease through the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Additionally, he earned board certification in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease through the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons, which is committed to providing board recertification for both MDs and DOs that ensures physician compliance with national standards and promotes lifelong learning.

Attributing his success to his love of medicine, Dr. Lefkowitz cannot imagine doing anything else, as it drives him to succeed. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, as well as an active member of the American Society of Echocardiography, the American Medical Association, and the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology. 

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).

In addition to English, Dr. Lefkowitz speaks Hebrew.
