Get to know General Practice and Pathology Physician Dr. Gonzalo Uribe-Botero, who serves the population of Texas. Dr. Uribe-Botero is a board certified as a General Practitioner and Pathology Physician with the Academy Institute Of Pathology. He is also affiliated with Angleton Danbury Medical Center and Sweeny Community Hospital. Dr. Uribe-Botero is certified by the American Board of Pathology. The mission of the American Board of Pathology, as a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties, is to promote the field of pathology and the continuing competency of practicing pathologists. Dr. Uribe-Botero graduated with his Medical Degree from the University of Antioquia in Colombia in 1962, giving him over five decades of experience in his field. After completing his Medical Degree he completed his residency with the St. Vincent De Paul University Hospital. He then relocated to the United States where he completed his certification with the Education Commission of Foreign Medical Graduates. Certification by ECFMG is the standard for evaluating the qualifications of these physicians before they enter U.S. graduate medical education (GME), where they provide supervised patient care. ECFMG Certification also is a requirement for IMGs to take Step 3 of the three-step United States Medical Licensing Examination® (USMLE®) and to obtain an unrestricted license to practice medicine in the United States. Dr. Uribe-Botero then completed his training through his Fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Research in Houston, TX. In 2018 Dr. Uribe-Botero received both the Compassionate Doctor Recognition and the Patients’ Choice Award. To stay up to date in his field, he remains a professional member of the Houston Society of Clinical Pathology, International Academy of Pathology, Harris County Medical Society, and the New York Academy of Sciences. His patients have excellent experiences with him, one stating, “Dr. Uribe-Botero and his nurse delivered stellar service!” Pathology includes the examination and analysis of human tissue, bone, and bodily fluids for abnormalities, or evidence of disease or infection. The field is critical to the accurate diagnosis of patients in a clinical setting, as well as to determine the cause of death of the deceased.
