A native of Wayne, New Jersey, Dr. Cosmi pursued his undergraduate studies at Rutgers College in New Brunswick, where he majored in classics and biology, graduating with honors and being elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

He attended New Jersey Medical School in Newark, where he was a recipient of numerous scholarships and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha. He then completed his residency in internal medicine at New York University Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital in New York City, after which he was chosen to serve as a chief medical resident. He continued at NYU for a fellowship in cardiology, where he was elected a fellow of the year twice and authored several scientific papers in the fields of echocardiography and myocardial infarction. He then completed a fellowship in interventional cardiology at NYU.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Cardiology (FACC), the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and interventional cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Interventional cardiology is a branch of cardiology that deals specifically with the catheter-based treatment of structural heart diseases. An interventional cardiologist specializes in diagnosing and treating conditions and diseases of the heart and blood vessels using nonsurgical, catheter-based procedures and specialized imaging techniques.
