Martens, MD, PhD, as the Surgical Director of Pediatric Heart Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support at Cohen Children’s Medical Center. Dr. Martens, a board-certified congenital cardiothoracic surgeon, is renowned for his pioneering work in pediatric cardiac surgery, mechanical circulatory support, and transplantation.
Dr. Martens brings a wealth of experience and a robust academic background to his new role. He earned his medical degree from NYU Grossman School of Medicine in 2001 and completed a PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Columbia University in 2009. His postgraduate training includes fellowships in thoracic surgery at NYU and congenital cardiac surgery at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
In his previous roles, Dr. Martens served as Co-Director of the Pediatric Heart Center and Medical Director of ECMO at Loma Linda University Health. He holds an academic appointment as an Associate Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Pediatrics at the Donald & Barbara Zucker School of Medicine.
