Get to know Certified Physician Assistant, Ryan Sperl, who serves patients in Odessa, Texas. Ryan is a certified physician assistant who specializes in hematology, oncology, and hereditary cancer genetics. He currently practices in adult oncology with an interest in pediatric oncology. In practice at Texas Oncology-West Texas Cancer Center, he specializes in managing adult hematology and oncology patients by providing a broad range of care under the supervision of a physician. Educated in the United States, Ryan graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences from Texas A&M University in College Station. He then went on to earn his Master of Science in Biology from The University of Texas of the Permian Basin, and his Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. As a big proponent for clinical trials and clinical research at his practice, Ryan obtained the Cancer Genetic Risk Assessment Certification through the National Consortium of Breast Centers. Additionally, he is an active member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the Association of Physician Assistants in Oncology, the Permian Basin Physician Assistant Society, and graduated as a member of the Pi Alpha National Honor Society for Physician Assistants. A Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) is a health care practitioner who practices medicine in collaboration with physicians. They examine patients, prescribe medicine, and order diagnostic tests. In most cases, they work under the supervision of physicians or surgeons, but they can work more independently in some states, rural areas, and inner-city areas, consulting with physicians only when they need help with cases. Affiliated with Rays of Hope Children’s Grief Center of Midland, Ryan works with children ranging from kindergartners to sixth graders currently going through a “change” in their lives that can be either a divorce, deployment, incarceration or death of a loved one.
