Get to know Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Shelly Hook, who serves patients in Lubbock, Texas.

When it comes to obstetric care, she is committed to empowering her patients to make informed decisions about their childbirth experience. With a philosophy deeply rooted in attentive listening and genuine connection, she prioritizes not just treating symptoms, but understanding the holistic experience of her patients. “Taking the time to listen to the patient is critical to me because the things that are going on in the outside world are affecting their well-being,” stated Dr. Hook.

Academically, her journey began with a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from Texas Tech University in 1998, followed by a medical degree from Texas Tech Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in 2007. Committed to excellence, she completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at TTUHSC in 2011, and earned board certification from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. 

In her practice, Dr. Hook seamlessly integrates her medical knowledge with her background in psychology, recognizing the interconnectedness of physical health and emotional well-being. She views her patients not merely as cases but as individuals with multifaceted identities – mothers, daughters, wives – whose health directly influences their relationships and quality of life. 

Obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics (covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and gynecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system – vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts).
