Get to know Speech-Language Pathologist Chelsey Tanner, who serves the population of Virginia.

Chelsey Tanner is a speech-language pathologist currently practicing with Sentara MeadowView Terrace. Sentara MeadowView Terrace, located in Clarksville, is home to 150 residents requiring either rehabilitation or long-term care. Its unique household and neighborhood design and serene country setting provide comfort and security for those who live there as well as their families. 

Sentara MeadowView Terrace is a part of Sentra Healthcare For more than 125 years, Sentara has been committed to helping people just like you, people who want the most dedicated medical professionals helping them through every stage of life. Over the years, as we have expanded our offerings in health care, we also have grown as an integrated healthcare system throughout Virginia, North Carolina and beyond. Now, we operate more than 300 sites of care, including 12 hospitals – seven in Hampton Roads (southeastern Virginia), one in Northern Virginia, two in the Blue Ridge region of Virginia, one in southern Virginia and one in North Carolina.

In regards to her education, Chelsey graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a minor in Speech Education with Summa Cum Laude Honors in 201. 

Speech-Language Pathology is a field of expertise practiced by a clinician known as a speech-language pathologist (SLP), also sometimes referred to as a speech and language therapist or a speech therapist. SLP is considered a “related health profession” along with audiology, optometry, occupational therapy, clinical psychology, physical therapy, and others. The field of SLP is distinguished from other “related health professions” SLPs are legally permitted to conclude to certain disorders which fall within their scope of practice. SLPs specialize in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of communication disorders (speech disorders and language disorders), cognitive-communication disorders, voice disorders, and swallowing disorders. SLPs also play an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorder (often in a team with pediatricians and psychologists).
