Get to know Family Medical Resident Dr. Nicholas R. Battaglia, who practices in Lynchburg, Virginia.

A 2020 graduate of the Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Battaglia is currently a family medicine resident of the Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency at Centra Medical Group. With a career goal to work in an outpatient clinic, his professional interests include outpatient medicine, pediatrics, hypertension, and diabetes management. 

Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency has been a medical home to Lynchburg for over 40 years. Its mission of “Educating Family Physicians through Excellent Patient Care” means they provide continuous, compassionate, and competent healthcare that develops the practice skills of their resident physicians for the challenges of their careers. They meet their mission through regularly updated and amiable physicians, a state-of-the-art facility, friendly professional staff, and ongoing community involvement. 

Academically, Dr. Battaglia holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from Drexel University (2015). 

Among his volunteer efforts, he served as a volunteer at Cathedral Kitchen (September 2010 – June 2011), as the Entertainment Co-Chair for the local chapter of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life (February 2013 – January 2016), and as a volunteer at the Voorhees Pediatric Facility (June 2012 – June 2015). 

The holistic approach of general practice aims to take into consideration the biological, psychological, and social factors relevant to the care of each patient’s illness. In the medical profession, a general practitioner is a medical doctor who treats acute and chronic illnesses and provides preventive care and health education to patients.

On a more personal note, Dr. Battaglia’s hobbies include watching and playing football and basketball (huge Philadelphia sports fan), watching fantasy football, and taking walks in downtown Lynchburg with his family. When asked what he loves about Lynchburg, he answered: “The people, the restaurants, downtown, the parks, Blackwater Creek Trail. This town is where I went to medical school, met my wife, and started my family.”
