Get to know Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Vijayalakshmi Nagappan, who serves patients throughout the State of Michigan.

A board-certified infectious disease specialist in practice for over 25 years, Dr. Nagappan works as infectious disease attending in Beaumont Hospital, Dearborn, Taylor and Wayne 

Holding a license to practice medicine in Michigan, Dr. Nagappan is affiliated with Beaumont Hospital, Dearborn; Beaumont Hospital, Taylor; and Beaumont Hospital, Wayne.

Her acclaimed career in medicine began after she earned her medical degree from PSG Institute of Medical Science & Research in India in 1996. Upon relocating to the United States, she served her internship in internal medicine at Helene Fuld Medical Center in 2000, her residency in internal medicine at DMC Sinai Grace Hospital in 2003, and her fellowship in internal medicine at the University of Michigan in 2005.

That same year, Dr. Nagappan attained board certification in infectious disease through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Infectious disease is a medical specialty dealing with the prevention, the diagnosis, and the treatment of infections. An infectious disease specialist’s practice also consists of managing nosocomial (hospital-acquired) infections.

On a more personal note, Dr. Nagappan speaks both English and Tamil.
