Get to know Psychiatrist Dr. Obi Ikwechegh, who serves patients in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

A well-respected psychiatrist, Dr. Ikwechegh sees patients at Kairos Medical Consulting in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He works to validate the import of mental health diagnoses while actively collaborating with patients to reinforce their own strengths towards a full life.

In good standing with a number of professional organizations, he is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Psychological Association, the American Psychiatric Association (Fellow), the American Society for Addiction Medicine, the American Association for Physician Leadership, and the North Carolina Psychiatric Association.

Locally, he is on active medical staff at Novant Health Clemmons Medical Center, Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center, Novant Health Kernersville Medical Center, Coastal Plain Hospital, and New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Graduating with his medical degree from the College of Medicine at Abia State University Uturu in Nigeria in 1998, Dr. Ikwechegh relocated to the United States to further his training. Once there, he performed his internship and residency in psychiatry at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in 2007 and 2010, respectively. 

Offering help for psychiatric conditions, he is board-certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.

Furthermore, he is board-certified in addiction medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine, a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties that issues “certificates of special knowledge” in the specialty of preventive medicine.

Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Psychiatrists evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. They conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, prescribe medication, and evaluate treatment results.
