  • My wife's face and neck muscles tense when trying to speak?

Wow! You two have been through a lot. So, in short, I am unable to diagnose or say specifically what is going on with your wife. With that said, you have indicated that your wife has hypothyroid disease which can result in voice disorders. I would recommend seeing a Speech Pathologist that is a voice specialist. They can give you a much broader range of assistance than say a Speech Pathologist that deals with strokes. Hope this helps. READ MORE

    No. READ MORE

  • My child is developmentally delayed?

It means that given 100 children, your child is performing 79th, basically and only 21 children performed worse. Most schools consider having a 50% delay significant to justify special education services, i.e., speech therapy through an IEP (individual education plan). In speech production, most children with this percent of delay, would be difficult to understand. READ MORE

Between 12-24 months of age most children will have developed between 10-20 words. This is based on language normative data. If your child has had multiple ear infections, it may be more on the side of articulation. In other words, they may have the words, but you can't understand them. When in doubt, I always recommend that you contact a Speech-Language Pathologist to complete an evaluation. READ MORE
