Get to know Cardiologist Dr. Jared Spitz, who serves patients throughout the State of Virginia.

A board-certified cardiologist, Dr. Spitz has been in practice since 2016, and joined Inova Health System in 2022. In his current role, he provides comprehensive cardiac care to patients in both the outpatient and hospital settings, with a focus on prevention, general cardiology, and critical care. He is also committed to ongoing research on the intersection of genetics, imaging, and coronary disease.

Graduating from the University of Michigan with his Bachelor of Arts degree, Dr. Spitz went on to further his training by receiving his medical degree from the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in 2016, and completed his residency in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 2019.

Before joining Inova, he completed a clinical fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the New York Presbyterian Hospital – Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York, where he developed expertise in general cardiology, prevention, and multimodality imaging. He also conducted research on the role of imaging and clinical genetic testing in coronary artery disease.

Recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

In order to remain up to date in his field, Dr. Spitz is an active member of the National Lipid Association, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society – Illinois Chapter.

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).
