Board-Certified Specialist Brings Advanced Minimally Invasive Techniques and Academic Leadership to the Region 

CoxHealth proudly announces the addition of Dr. Benjamin C. Castro, MD, DABS, FPMBS, to its esteemed team at the CoxHealth Weight Loss and Advanced Surgery Center in Springfield, Missouri. Dr. Castro, a board-certified general surgeon with specialized training in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery, is now accepting new patients seeking comprehensive weight loss solutions. 

Dr. Castro completed his medical education through the accelerated program at the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Medicine in 2017. He then pursued a general surgery residency at Orlando Regional Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery at the University of Missouri. His extensive training equips him to offer advanced surgical options for patients battling obesity and related health conditions. 

At CoxHealth, Dr. Castro is committed to providing patient-centered care, utilizing minimally invasive techniques to enhance recovery times and outcomes. His approach emphasizes compassion and comprehensive support throughout each patient’s weight loss journey. Fluent in Spanish, Dr. Castro ensures effective communication with a diverse patient population. 

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Castro serves as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery at the University of Missouri School of Medicine and at the Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine. He actively contributes to the field through research and presentations, including his participation in the 2024 American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Annual Meeting, where he presented on topics such as laparoscopic gastric bypass reversal and revision procedures.
