Dr. Ismael Salas is a thoracic surgeon serving Huston and the surrounding communities at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center. 

The Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center serves as the primary health care provider for more than 113,000 Veterans in southeast Texas. Veterans from around the country are referred to the MEDVAMC for specialized diagnostic care, radiation therapy, surgery, and medical treatment including cardiovascular surgery, gastrointestinal endoscopy, nuclear medicine, ophthalmology, and treatment of spinal cord injury and diseases. 

Dr. Salas received his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Universidad Central De Venezuela in 2001 where he went on to complete a residency. He completed an additional residency at the Baylor College of Medicine and a fellowship at the Texas Heart Institute. As a thoracic surgeon, Dr. Salas sees both male and female adult patients with cardiovascular diseases. 

Dr. Salas is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). The ACS was established in Chicago, IL, in 1913 at the initiative of Franklin Martin, MD, FACS. The College is a surgical society dedicated to promoting the highest standards of surgical care through education of, and advocacy for, its Fellows and their patients, and to safeguarding standards of care in an optimal and ethical practice environment. 

Dr. Salas currently serves as an assistant professor at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in the UT Health network.
