Get to know Neurosurgeon Dr. Joseph T. Cheatle, who serves patients in North Carolina.

Dr. Cheatle is a board-certified neurosurgeon who is currently serving patients at Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates in Rock Hill & Ballantyne, North Carolina. Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates, which was established in 1940, is one of the oldest and largest neurosurgical practices in the country. The practice provides advanced surgical and nonsurgical treatment for the entire spectrum of brain, spine, and peripheral nerve disorders, including brain tumors, spine injuries, stroke, epilepsy, birth defects, concussions, neck and lower back pain, and pituitary tumors.

Dr. Cheatle is also affiliated with Grand Strand Spine & Neuro Care in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The physicians at Grand Strand Spine & Neuro Care provide specialized care for patients suffering from back and neck pain, stroke, headaches, brain injuries, spinal cord diseases, and other neurological conditions. They use traditional surgeries and offer the latest treatments, including minimally invasive procedures, artificial disc replacement, and pain management. Their goal is to help patients achieve and maintain their highest level of mobility. 

Dr. Cheatle earned his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha, Nebraska in 2008. He then went on to complete his internship and residency in neurosurgery at UNMC.

Dr. Cheatle is board-certified in neurological surgery by the American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS). The broad aim of the ABNS is to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards, and advance the science of neurological surgery, thereby serving the cause of public health.

Dr. Cheatle is a member of the North American Spine Society, the American Neuromodulation Society, the International Brain Injury Association, the South Carolina Medical Association, the Society of Neuro-Oncology, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons.  

Neurosurgery, or neurological surgery, is the medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of disorders which affect any portion of the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and extra-cranial cerebrovascular system. Neurosurgeons are doctors who diagnose and treat problems with the nervous system, often by performing surgery on the brain or spine. They treat strokes, tumors, certain types of birth defects, infections, and head or spinal cord injuries. 

Dr. Cheatle enjoys outdoor activities, hiking, running, and swimming. He also enjoys spending time with his wife, Jenny, and their young children, Jack and Scarlett.
